A standardized free-fall result cannot tell you whether your personal phone will survive a particular accident, but it can provide a common impact-resistance comparison within a compatible test cohort.

This ranking keeps non-foldable smartphones together and orders them by the registered number of repeated falls without defect. Foldable devices use different test states and thresholds, so their raw counts are intentionally not mixed into this table.

How this ranking works

The repeated free-fall framework tests multiple units of a model and records the number of falls passed without defect according to the defined procedure. FactRated ranks valid non-foldable smartphone records by that registered count and shows the official free-fall reliability class alongside it.

The official non-foldable smartphone class thresholds begin at 270 falls for class A, 180 for B, 90 for C and 45 for D. FactRated does not convert these thresholds into a promise about real-life accidents.

How to use the result

If accidental drops are one of your main concerns, start with this ranking and then check screen scratch resistance, IP protection and repairability. Those metrics describe different risks.

A high fall count does not imply high water resistance. A hard-to-scratch screen does not necessarily survive impacts better. A physically robust phone can still become difficult to maintain if repairability or support is weak.

Frequently asked questions

Does 270 falls mean the phone will survive 270 real drops?

No. It means the model meets the corresponding result under the standardized repeated free-fall procedure. Real drops differ in height, surface, angle, case use and prior damage.

Why are foldable phones not in this ranking?

Foldables are evaluated using different physical states and class thresholds. Mixing their raw counts with conventional phones would imply a direct equivalence that the test framework does not support.

Is class A the strongest free-fall class?

Yes for the applicable smartphone/tablet framework. FactRated still shows the actual registered count where available because it provides more context within the class.

Is drop resistance the same as screen scratch resistance?

No. Repeated free-fall reliability addresses impact-related performance under the test; scratch resistance addresses surface hardness.
