Most Repairable Smartphones by Official Repairability Index

Repairability is broader than whether a battery can be removed. The official smartphone repairability index combines disassembly depth, fasteners, tools, the Spare Parts score, software-update duration and repair-information access into a numeric value from 1.00 to 5.00, where higher is better.

FactRated ranks current smartphones by that numeric index and also shows the official A–E repairability class. The numeric value is useful because two models in the same letter class can still have different index values.

Order: Repairability index — highest first, unavailable values last. Tied values share the same position. The displayed top percentage includes every model tied at that value. At least 30 comparable models are required for contextual positions.

How this ranking works

Eligible current smartphones with a valid repairability index are sorted from highest to lowest. Missing values are excluded. FactRated retains the official class and can show relevant supporting fields such as battery user-replaceability, declared software-update duration and validated repair/spare-parts links.

The ranking is about the standardized repairability methodology. It is not a local repair-price comparison.

What goes into the repairability index

The framework weights six dimensions:

That is why a phone can have a non-user-replaceable battery and still score well overall, or have a replaceable battery without necessarily leading the full index.

What this metric does not tell you

Frequently asked questions

Is class A better than class B?

Yes. A is the highest official repairability class. FactRated still ranks by the numeric index where available because it gives more precision inside each class.

Does a high repairability index guarantee a cheap repair?

No. It describes repair-related design and support conditions, not local labor prices or the final cost of a specific repair.

Is battery replaceability included in this ranking?

Battery-related serviceability contributes to the broader methodology, but FactRated also shows the registered user-replaceable-battery field separately because consumers often want to filter on it directly.

Why does software support affect repairability?

A physically serviceable product can still lose useful life if essential software support ends. Software-update duration is therefore one of the six dimensions in the official index.
